LJP (Ram Vilas) Chief Confirms Entry into State Politics; Criticizes Mahagathbandhan and Raises Concerns on Law and Order
Saran, Bihar: Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan has announced that he will contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, marking a major political shift for the young leader. The announcement was made during a rally in Saran district on Sunday.
“YES, I WILL CONTEST THE BIHAR ASSEMBLY POLLS,” PASWAN DECLARED, URGING HIS PARTY WORKERS TO GEAR UP FOR A FULL-SCALE CONTEST ACROSS ALL 243 SEATS IN ALLIANCE WITH THE BJP AND JDU.
The LJP (Ram Vilas) had contested 137 seats in the 2020 Assembly elections, but managed to win just one—Matihani. This time, Paswan is aiming for a strong comeback.
Chirag Paswan currently serves as a Lok Sabha MP from Hajipur and is a Cabinet Minister in the Modi government. He won the Hajipur seat in the 2024 general elections, defeating RJD’s Shiv Chandra Ram by a margin of over 1.7 lakh votes.
Sharp Attack on Mahagathbandhan
During his fiery address, Paswan launched a direct attack on the Mahagathbandhan, comprising RJD, Congress, and their allies.
“THEY ARE THE ONES WHO HAVE ALWAYS TRIED TO VIOLATE THE SANCTITY OF THE CONSTITUTION,” HE ALLEGED.
Paswan accused the Congress and RJD of misleading people on the issue of reservations.
“AS LONG AS I AM ALIVE, NO ONE CAN THREATEN RESERVATION OR THE CONSTITUTION,” HE SAID, SWEARING BY THE LEGACY OF HIS FATHER, RAM VILAS PASWAN.
He reminded the audience of the 1975 Emergency, imposed by Congress, during which the words ‘socialist’ and ‘secular’ were added to the Constitution’s Preamble.
“CONGRESS MURDERED THE CONSTITUTION. THEY HURT ITS SOUL,” HE CLAIMED.
Veiled Criticism of Nitish Kumar-Led Bihar Govt
Paswan also took a subtle dig at his NDA partner, the JDU, over rising crime in Bihar. Referring to the recent killing of Patna businessman Gopal Khemka, he raised concerns over the state’s law and order situation.
“MURDERS AND CRIMES ARE RAMPANT. THIS IS A MATTER OF CONCERN FOR EVERYONE, INCLUDING ME. THE GOVERNMENT I SUPPORT IS KNOWN FOR ‘SUSHAASAN’ (GOOD GOVERNANCE),” PASWAN SAID BLUNTLY.
He further added that he envisions a fear-free Bihar, where citizens can go about their daily lives without danger or intimidation.
Gopal Khemka, a well-known businessman and owner of Magadh Hospital, was shot dead on Friday in Patna. His son, Gunjan Khemka, a BJP leader, had also been murdered six years earlier in a similar attack.
Elections Near, Seat Talks Pending
The Bihar Assembly elections are expected to be held in October or November 2025. Both the NDA and Mahagathbandhan are yet to finalize seat-sharing arrangements for the crucial polls.
Paswan’s decision to enter the state electoral race could reshape political equations, especially in the Dalit and youth voter segments.
With sharp rhetoric and renewed ambition, Chirag Paswan has signaled that he’s ready for a deeper role in Bihar’s political battlefield.
