Calls Bihar the “Crime Capital”; Opposition Unites Ahead of Assembly Polls
Patna: Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has launched a sharp attack on the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in Bihar, following the murder of businessman Gopal Khemka in Patna.
In a strong post on X (formerly Twitter), the Congress MP said:
“Today, Bihar lives under the shadow of loot, gunfire, and murder. Crime has become the new normal, and the government has completely failed.”
Calling Bihar the “crime capital of India,” Gandhi appealed to the people to vote out the government in the upcoming Assembly elections.
“Every murder, every robbery, every bullet is a cry for change. This time, your vote isn’t just to change the government — it’s to save Bihar,” he said.
Khemka Murder Sparks Political Storm
Gopal Khemka, owner of Magadh Hospital, was shot dead at 11:40 PM on Friday in the Gandhi Maidan area—a high-security zone in Patna. He was attacked by unidentified bike-borne assailants, six years after his son Gunjan Khemka, a BJP leader, was also murdered in broad daylight in a similar fashion.
The killing was captured on CCTV, intensifying public outrage.
Tejashwi Yadav and Pappu Yadav React Strongly
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav slammed the Nitish government over poor law and order.
“The police took two hours to reach the spot. Six years ago, his son was killed and the killers were never caught. This shows the state of governance,” he told ANI.
He accused the state administration of being run through bribery and transfers, not by performance.
“The CM is tired and unconscious. Officers are running the government. No one is safe,” he added.
Independent MP Pappu Yadav also reached the crime scene and questioned how such a murder could take place in the heart of Patna, where key officials including the District Magistrate reside.
“Does the government want to see every member of the Khemka family dead?” he asked angrily.
Law and Order in Focus Ahead of Bihar Polls
The murder has stirred a major political row, coming just months before the Bihar Assembly elections, likely to be held in October or November 2025.
The opposition, including Congress and RJD, has intensified its attacks on the NDA, especially targeting Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over rising crimes.
With public anger rising and political temperatures soaring, law and order is set to become a major election issue in the battle for Bihar.
