Major Women and Youth Empowerment Push Ahead of Assembly Elections
Patna: In a big move to promote women empowerment and youth welfare, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday made two major announcements ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
Speaking at a press conference and sharing details on social media platform X, Nitish Kumar said that 35% of all posts in government jobs will be reserved exclusively for women who are permanent residents of Bihar.
“35% reservation for women candidates who are original residents of Bihar will apply to direct recruitment in all categories, levels, and types of posts in the state government services,” the Chief Minister declared.
The step is aimed at increasing women’s participation in governance, boosting their role in administration, and making them a stronger part of Bihar’s workforce.
In another major move, the Chief Minister also announced the creation of a Bihar Youth Commission, a new statutory body that was approved by the state cabinet the same day.
“The Commission will work to empower, train, and support the youth of Bihar. It will help improve employment and education opportunities for them,” Nitish Kumar said.
The Bihar Youth Commission will advise the government on policies related to youth welfare, and coordinate with departments for implementation.
The Commission will include:
1 Chairperson
2 Vice-Chairpersons
7 Members, all below the age of 45
It will also ensure that local youth get priority in private sector jobs within Bihar. At the same time, it will look after the interests of students and workers from Bihar who are living, studying, or working outside the state.
The Commission will also focus on social issues like alcohol and substance abuse among the youth. It will prepare awareness programmes and make recommendations to the government to curb these evils.
The government said that these initiatives are part of a larger vision to make Bihar’s youth self-reliant, skilled, and employment-ready, ensuring a stronger future for the next generation.
With these bold steps, Nitish Kumar is sending a clear message: women and youth are at the center of Bihar’s development agenda.
