Bhubaneswar: A fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over the north Bay of Bengal around July 24, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The system may bring heavy rainfall to many parts of Odisha over the next week.
The IMD said the low-pressure area is expected to form due to upper air cyclonic circulation, which will boost moisture and cloud formation in the region. The system may later strengthen into a depression and move west-northwestwards across Gangetic West Bengal, north Odisha, Jharkhand, and south Chhattisgarh.
Under its influence, rainfall activity will increase from July 23. The wet spell is likely to last for three to four days.
Several parts of coastal and northern Odisha may receive significant rainfall during this time. The system is expected to bring much-needed relief from the humid conditions that have gripped the state in recent days.
The Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre has forecast five days of rain across Odisha. While most areas will see rain, a few coastal districts may remain dry.
A yellow warning has been issued for 22 districts. Heavy rainfall is likely in the western, southern, and northern regions of the state.
This development comes amid a weak and uneven monsoon, with dry spells and scattered showers observed in many parts of Odisha over the past few weeks.
Weather officials are closely monitoring the system for further updates. Residents are advised to stay alert and follow local weather advisories.
