New Delhi: In a major move to strengthen the electoral process, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has doubled the remuneration of Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and enhanced pay for BLO Supervisors. For the first time, honorariums have also been introduced for Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs).
Boost for Frontline Electoral Staff
The ECI said that clean and accurate electoral rolls form the foundation of democracy. The officers responsible for preparing these rolls — EROs, AEROs, BLO Supervisors, and BLOs — play a vital role in ensuring fairness and transparency.
To recognise their hard work, the Commission has revised the remuneration structure. This is the first such revision since 2015.
New Remuneration Structure
| Designation | Existing (2015) | Revised |
| ——————————- | ————— | ——- |
| Booth Level Officer (BLO) | ₹6,000 | ₹12,000 |
| BLO Incentive for Revision Work | ₹1,000 | ₹2,000 |
| BLO Supervisor | ₹12,000 | ₹18,000 |
| AERO | Nil | ₹25,000 |
| ERO | Nil | ₹30,000 |
In addition, the Commission has approved a special incentive of ₹6,000 for BLOs involved in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) drive, which begins in Bihar.
A Step Towards Better Governance
This decision reflects the Commission’s commitment to supporting election staff working on the ground. By improving their financial compensation, the ECI hopes to further encourage accurate voter registration, better voter assistance, and a stronger democratic process.
