Surat and Navi Mumbai Follow; Noida Tops in Mid-Sized Cities
New Delhi: Indore has once again secured the title of India’s cleanest city, marking its eighth consecutive win in the annual Swachh Survekshan rankings. Surat and Navi Mumbai claimed the second and third spots, respectively, in the nationwide cleanliness assessment.
The awards were presented by President Droupadi Murmu at a grand ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The event was organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).
In the category of cities with a population between 3 to 10 lakh, Noida emerged as the cleanest. Chandigarh and Mysore followed closely behind.
This year’s Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 covered over 4,500 cities across India. It used a modern, structured evaluation system with 10 parameters and 54 indicators to measure sanitation, waste management, and public service delivery.
The government said the main aim of the Swachh Survekshan mission is to encourage public participation and raise awareness on urban cleanliness. The mission has now entered its ninth year and has become the world’s largest urban cleanliness survey.
Officials noted that the 2024-25 edition adopted a smart and transparent approach to rank cities. The rankings were based not only on field assessments but also on citizen feedback and third-party verification.
The government hopes this initiative will continue to motivate cities to innovate and ensure a cleaner, greener, and healthier urban India.
