Mumbai: The Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested a man accused of threatening comedian and actor Kapil Sharma. The accused, identified as Dilip Choudhary, was caught in West Bengal’s 24 Parganas district.
According to police, Choudhary sent a threatening email to Sharma. He demanded ₹1 crore and claimed to be a member of the **Goldy Brar and Rohit Godara gang**. Investigators are probing whether he has any real links to these groups.
Attacks in Canada
The arrest comes weeks after Sharma’s restaurant, **Kap’s Café in Surrey, Canada**, was attacked twice in less than a month.
* On **July 10**, the first firing took place. Harjit Singh Laddi, a Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) operative, claimed responsibility. He said the attack was over “derogatory remarks” about Nihang Sikhs.
* On **August 28**, the café was attacked again. At least **25 rounds were fired**, damaging windows but causing no injuries. Goldy Dhillon, a Bishnoi gang member, later claimed responsibility from abroad.
Gangster links
Police say **Goldy Dhillon** is wanted in multiple extortion and murder cases in Punjab and is believed to be hiding in **Germany**. Both Dhillon and Lawrence Bishnoi’s network have been linked to extortion threats targeting celebrities.
Security tightened
Following these incidents and threats, **Mumbai Police increased Kapil Sharma’s security cover**. Officials say the investigation is focusing on whether Choudhary acted alone or at the behest of a larger network.
