Patna: Bihar has become the first state in India to ensure that all its polling stations have fewer than 1,200 voters. This move is aimed at reducing overcrowding and long queues during elections.
As part of this change, 12,817 new polling stations have been added. The total number of polling stations in the state has now increased to 90,712, up from 77,895. This follows a revision in the upper limit of voters per polling station—from 1,500 to 1,200—as per the State Intensive Revision (SIR) order dated June 24, 2025.
The Election Commission of India has praised this initiative and has asked other states and union territories to follow Bihar’s example.
Political Parties to Help Identify Missing Voters
- In a large-scale outreach, Bihar’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) and other election officials have shared detailed lists with 12 major political parties. These lists include:
- 29.62 lakh voters who have not returned their Enumeration Forms (EFs)
- 43.93 lakh voters who were not found at their given addresses
- All major parties have been requested to reach out to these voters through their district units and over 1.5 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs).
Public to Get Full Month for Objections
The draft electoral roll will be published on August 1, 2025. From this date, the public can raise objections or request corrections for a full month, including additions, deletions, or rectifications.
