Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Legislative Assembly has gone fully digital with the launch of the ‘Digital House’ under the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA). Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated the initiative on Wednesday in the presence of Speaker Surama Padhy, ministers, and legislators.
The CM called it a historic day for the state’s legislative process. He said the initiative marks a big step towards a digital future, allowing legislators to access bills, notices, questions, and reports online. This move eliminates the need for paper documents, making the Assembly more efficient and eco-friendly.
NeVA is part of the Digital India and Go Green programmes. It aims to make all state legislatures paperless and bring them onto a single platform. This will create a central database for easier access and comparison.
Though launched in 2021, NeVA was not fully functional until now. The Odisha Assembly had already received the CSI-SIG e-Governance Award of Excellence (Gold) in 2021 for its IT adoption.
The key features of NeVA include online bill management, committee functions, question submissions, e-voting, e-attendance, House productivity reports, speech time management, and digital display systems.
With this move, Odisha joins 16 other state legislatures, along with the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, that are fully digital on the NeVA platform. Speaker Padhy stated that this initiative will enhance efficiency, streamline processes, and ensure transparency in legislative proceedings.
