Bhubaneswar: The Budget Session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly started today with Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati’s address.
Beginning with a ‘Jai Jagannath’ greeting, the Governor outlined the government’s top priorities. These include poverty reduction, youth employment, farmer support, and women empowerment.
He highlighted the success of the Subhadra Yojana, which has benefitted over 1 crore women. He also announced an increase of Rs 800 in the minimum support price for paddy, raising it to Rs 3,100 per quintal.
The government is committed to preserving Odia identity. It aligns with the ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ philosophy and aims for a ‘Bikasita Odisha’ by 2036, as part of ‘Viksit Bharat’ envisioned by PM Modi.
Under the New Education Policy, the ‘Utkarsh Odisha’ initiative aims to make Odisha a major contributor to India’s growth by 2047. The recent Pravasi Bharatiya Divas brought in 300,000 suggestions for Vision 2036.
The Kamadhenu Scheme has benefited 46 lakh women and children with nutritional aid. The state plans to create 1.5 lakh government jobs in five years, with 65,000 positions to be filled in the first two years. The weaving sector is expected to generate 50,000 new jobs.
During the Utkarsh Odisha Conclave, Odisha signed MoUs worth Rs 12.89 lakh crore. The state continues to support local athletes and housing initiatives, including the PM Awas Yojana.
Odisha aims to ensure regular tap water by 2026 in 115 urban areas. It also plans to improve electricity supply and expand rail connectivity across districts.
The Governor concluded by reaffirming the state’s commitment to comprehensive development in all sectors.
