Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Finance Minister, Mohan Charan Majhi, presented a record-breaking state budget of Rs 2.90 lakh crore for the 2025-26 fiscal year in the Odisha Assembly on Monday. This marks a significant increase from the previous year’s Rs 2.65 lakh crore budget.
A Budget for Growth and Development
Majhi emphasized the government’s commitment to rapid development, aligning with the long-standing aspirations of Odisha’s people. The Chief Minister highlighted the state’s ambitious goal of becoming a $500 billion economy by 2036, the centenary year of Odisha’s formation as a separate state.
Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, the Odisha government is dedicated to ensuring inclusive growth. The state also aims to be a key driver in India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 mission.
Major Allocations and Key Highlights
Agriculture and Rural Development:
- Rs 37,838 crore allocated to the agriculture sector, benefiting 48% of the workforce.
- Rs 2,020 crore set aside for CM KISAN Yojana to support farmers.
- Rs 600 crore allocated for the Shree Anna Abhiyan to promote millet cultivation.
- Rs 164 crore assigned to the Mukhyamantri Kamdhenu Yojana to boost milk production and improve farmers’ livelihoods.
- Rs 252 crore to support cold storage units from 2025-26 to 2029-30.
Housing and Urban Development:
- Rs 795 crore for constructing 27,000 houses under the PM-Awaas Yojana in urban areas.
- Rs 13,000 crore allocated for the Comprehensive City Road Decongestion Yojana to ease traffic congestion in Bhubaneswar.
- Rs 200 crore for the New City Development Scheme in Bhubaneswar.
Infrastructure and Growth:
- Increased investment in rural connectivity and industrial expansion.
- Focus on improving education, healthcare, and employment opportunities.
