Colombo: Adani Green Energy has pulled out of two proposed wind power projects in Sri Lanka. The decision comes a month after the Sri Lankan government began talks to reduce costs.
In January, Sri Lanka canceled a power purchase deal with Adani due to concerns over high tariffs. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake had promised to review Adani’s projects during his election campaign.
The scrutiny increased after a U.S. court indicted Gautam Adani in November over alleged corruption in India’s solar sector. Dissanayake called the project a threat to Sri Lanka’s energy sovereignty.
With Adani’s exit, Sri Lanka may seek other investors for its renewable energy plans.
