New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won the Delhi Assembly elections with a massive victory. The party secured 48 out of 70 seats, ending the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) rule in the capital.
AAP, which had won by a huge margin in the last two elections, managed only 22 seats this time. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and several top AAP leaders lost their seats. Congress, once a dominant force in Delhi, failed to win a single seat for the third time in a row.
BJP’s vote share increased significantly to 45.56%, up from 38.51% in 2020. Meanwhile, AAP’s vote share dropped to 43.57% from 53.57% in the last elections.
Congress saw a slight improvement in its vote share, rising to 6.34% from 4.3% in 2020. However, it still failed to make any electoral impact.
This is the first time a party with over 40% vote share lost the Delhi elections. The BJP’s strong campaign helped it regain power in the national capital after 26 years.
The focus now shifts to the selection of the new Chief Minister. BJP leaders, including JP Nadda and Amit Shah, have started discussions on forming the new government in Delhi.
