Prayagraj: A heart-wrenching 27-year search for Gangasagar Yadav, who mysteriously vanished from his Jharkhand home in 1998, has seemingly reached its conclusion at the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. The family’s hopes were revived when relatives attending the Mela spotted a man they believed resembled Gangasagar. The photograph they shared revealed striking similarities, including long teeth, a forehead injury, and a knee scar, prompting his wife, children, and brother to rush to the scene.
However, upon meeting the man—now a 65-year-old Aghori monk known as Baba Rajkumar—the family was met with a harsh denial. The monk, claiming to be from Varanasi, refused to acknowledge his past or any connection to the missing Gangasagar Yadav. Despite his rejection, the family remains convinced that this is indeed their long-lost member and has appealed to the Kumbh Mela police for a DNA test to confirm the identity.
“We are waiting for the results of the test. If it doesn’t match, we will apologize to Baba Rajkumar,” said Murli Yadav, Gangasagar’s brother. Meanwhile, his wife, Dhanwa Devi, is pleading with the authorities to help reunite her with her husband of nearly three decades. “He is my husband,” she insists, despite his firm denial.
Gangasagar’s sudden disappearance during a family wedding celebration in 1998 had left his relatives devastated, with no clues as to his whereabouts until the recent sighting at the Kumbh Mela. The family, now hopeful yet uncertain, continues to hold on to the possibility of closure, praying that a DNA test will provide the final answer.
