Bhopal: A dowry case has been filed against a man and his family in Bhopal after he allegedly demanded a car just a day before his wedding. When his demand was refused, he called off the marriage.
Dowry Demand Before Wedding
The bride’s family accused the groom of demanding a Thar jeep, priced between Rs 11.50 lakh and Rs 18 lakh, just before the wedding reception. When the family refused, the groom did not arrive with the wedding procession.
Wedding Cancelled
The wedding was scheduled for Friday at a marriage garden in Bhopal’s Koh-e-Fiza area. The bride’s family, relatives, and guests waited all night, but the groom and his family never arrived. The bride’s family then approached the police and filed a complaint.
Additional Demands
According to the complaint, three days before the wedding, the groom also demanded cash and jewellery. He allegedly cited business losses as a reason for requesting money. The bride initially thought he was joking but later realized he was serious.
Groom’s Denial
The groom, identified as Chauhan, has denied the allegations. He claimed that his family is financially stable and never asked for dowry. He also stated that he had been unwilling to marry for the past year but was pressured by the bride’s family.
Police Action
Police have registered a case under the Dowry Prohibition Act against the groom, his parents, and his sister-in-law. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are gathering evidence to verify the claims made by both parties.
