New Delhi: In a move to strengthen the “India-US comprehensive global strategic partnership,” the government of India confirmed on Friday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled for an early visit to the United States. Although the dates are still being finalized, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized that both nations are working closely to finalize the details of the trip.
This announcement follows a significant telephonic conversation between Prime Minister Modi and U.S. President Donald Trump, the first of its kind since Trump’s inauguration for a second term. During the call on January 27, both leaders discussed the growing bilateral ties between India and the United States, with President Trump expressing his congratulations to Modi on the recent Indian general elections.
On his official social media account, Modi expressed his delight in speaking with his “dear friend” Trump, acknowledging their shared commitment to a mutually beneficial relationship and global peace. The two leaders reaffirmed their resolve to collaborate for the welfare of their people and broader international stability.
Modi had previously spoken with Trump shortly after the latter’s election victory in November 2024. During that conversation, Trump praised Modi as a “magnificent man” and a “true friend,” emphasizing the importance of India to the United States.
Additionally, India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar attended Trump’s swearing-in ceremony on January 20, where he carried a personal letter from Modi to the new U.S. president, further solidifying the warm diplomatic ties between the two nations.
With these promising developments, Prime Minister Modi’s upcoming visit to the United States is expected to further enhance the strategic alliance between the two global powers.
