New Delhi: Social media accounts of several prominent Pakistani celebrities were once again blocked in India on Thursday, just a day after they had become briefly accessible.
Instagram and Twitter profiles of stars like Hania Aamir, Mahira Khan, Shahid Afridi, Fawad Khan, and Mawra Hocane are now inaccessible to Indian users.
When users try to access their pages on Instagram, a message reads:
“Account not available in India. This is because we complied with a legal request to restrict this content.”
On Wednesday, fans noticed that several Pakistani YouTube channels and Instagram accounts had suddenly reappeared in India. These included Hum TV, ARY Digital, and Har Pal Geo, along with profiles of actors like Saba Qamar, Ahad Raza Mir, Yumna Zaidi, and Danish Taimoor.
This led to speculation that the ban on Pakistani content had been lifted quietly. However, the reappearance turned out to be temporary.
Government sources later confirmed that it was a technical glitch.
“Some accounts were visible due to a technical issue. The glitch has been fixed, and the content is being restricted again,” a source told IndiaToday.in.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has not officially commented on the matter so far.
These restrictions were first imposed after India’s Operation Sindoor, a military strike against terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Following the operation, many Pakistani celebrities criticised India’s actions publicly. This sparked backlash and eventually led to the geoblocking of their social media profiles in India.
The repeated blocking and unblocking of these accounts have left fans confused and raised questions about digital censorship and the impact of politics on social media access.
For now, all previously visible Pakistani celebrity accounts are once again blocked for users in India.
