Prayagraj: In a historic achievement, 300 sanitation workers at Maha Kumbh 2025 have set a Guinness World Record for the first-ever coordinated river cleaning effort.
The event took place at multiple Ganga sectors during the ongoing festival. It was the world’s first large-scale river cleaning event involving such a huge number of workers.
Maha Kumbh Mela CEO, Akanksha Rana, confirmed the record. She also announced that more such records will follow as part of a massive cleanliness campaign. In the coming days, 15,000 sanitation workers will join the effort.
“This is a proud moment for all of us,” said Rana. “It sends a strong message to the world to keep our rivers clean.”
The record-breaking event happened at Ram Ghat. Anand Kumar Singh, a senior official, emphasized the importance of cleanliness with over 500 million visitors expected at the festival.
“Tomorrow, 15,000 workers will participate in this campaign,” he said. “We must all contribute to keeping our surroundings clean.”
Sanitation workers expressed their pride and joy in being part of this effort.
“It was an amazing experience,” said worker Manoj. “We are working hard to clean all three Sangam Ghats. I hope this inspires people to keep their areas clean.”
Sonu Kumar, another worker, recalled the 2019 event when Prime Minister Narendra Modi honored sanitation workers. “Today feels just as special,” he said. “We are motivated to keep our ghats and rivers clean.”
The Maha Kumbh 2025 has already seen a record-breaking turnout. So far, around 46 to 47 crore devotees have participated in the sacred event.
