New Delhi: In a surprising turn of events, six candidates from the New Delhi constituency secured single-digit votes in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections. All of them belonged to smaller political parties.
Iswar Chand of the Bharatrastra Democratic Party received the lowest votes, with just four people supporting him. Sangha Nand Bauddh from Bhim Sena, Mukesh Jain from the Rashtrawadi Janlok Party, and Nitya Nand Singh from the Rashtriya Manav Party each secured eight votes. Independent candidates Haider Ali and Pankaj Sharma got nine votes each.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to form the government in Delhi after 26 years. The party won 47 out of 70 seats and was leading in four more, according to the Election Commission.
BJP candidate Parvesh Verma achieved a major victory by defeating AAP leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency. Verma won by a margin of 4,089 votes. He received 30,088 votes, while Kejriwal got 25,999 votes. Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit secured 4,568 votes.
AAP faced a major setback but managed to win 21 seats in the elections. The party struggled against the BJP’s strong performance.
The elections marked a major shift in Delhi’s political landscape.
