New Delhi: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has imposed a fine of Rs 30 lakh on Air India. The penalty was issued for allowing a pilot to operate a flight without meeting mandatory requirements.
The regulator found that a pilot flew a flight on July 7, 2024, despite not completing the required three take-offs and landings. This violated civil aviation regulations.
The DGCA issued a show-cause notice to Air India’s head of operations and rostering on December 13, 2024. However, their response was found unsatisfactory.
The regulator also discovered repeated rostering issues within the airline. It noted that Air India’s rostering controllers ignored multiple alerts on their system.
Using its authority under Rule 162 of the Aircraft Rules, 1937, the DGCA imposed the financial penalty. The aviation regulator emphasized the importance of strict compliance with safety regulations.
Air India has yet to issue a statement on the matter.
