New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized India’s commitment to building long-term partnerships with Africa. He addressed the Japan-India-Africa Business Forum virtually on Wednesday.
Jaishankar highlighted India’s focus on capacity-building, skill development, and technology transfer. He said India’s approach ensures Africa benefits from investments while fostering self-sustaining growth.
India is Africa’s fourth-largest trading partner, with bilateral trade nearing USD 100 billion. Additionally, India has invested over USD 12 billion in infrastructure and connectivity projects. These include railways, power generation, agriculture, and water supply.
Jaishankar underscored India and Japan’s shared vision for strengthening Africa’s development. He reiterated their commitment to democratic values, freedom, and the rule of law.
He also spoke about India’s role in championing the Global South. He emphasized the need for emerging economies to have a voice in global decision-making. India has worked towards this through the Voice of the Global South Summits and its G20 presidency.
India’s development initiatives include the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) program and the Pan-African e-Network project. The e-VidyaBharti and e-ArogyaBharti network, launched in 2019, has benefited youth from 19 African countries.
Jaishankar expressed optimism about India-Japan-Africa collaboration. He highlighted that Japanese investments, India’s industrial base, and Africa’s talent can create mutual benefits. He concluded by saying Africa’s growth will contribute to global stability and progress.
