Chennai: A 26-year-old woman was sexually harassed while traveling on a train in Tamil Nadu. The incident took place in an unreserved compartment of a train from Thoothukudi to Erode.
The accused, identified as Satish Kumar from Coimbatore, was allegedly intoxicated. He misbehaved with the woman near Kodai Road Railway Station. The woman sought help from fellow passengers and called the railway helpline number 139.
When the train reached Dindigul Railway Station, police officers were waiting. After an inquiry, they arrested Satish Kumar. Further investigation is ongoing.
This incident happened just three days after another shocking crime. A four-month pregnant woman was assaulted and pushed out of a moving train near Jolarpet in Tamil Nadu. She suffered a miscarriage.
The attack took place on February 7. The survivor was traveling alone in the ladies’ compartment. The accused boarded the compartment at Jolarpettai after other women got off. He tried to assault her, and when she resisted, he pushed her out of the train.
Both cases have raised serious concerns about the safety of women on trains. Authorities are being urged to take stricter measures to prevent such crimes.
