New Delhi: Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah criticized recent Bollywood films for promoting “hyper masculinity” and “debasing women.” He shared his views at the Kerala Literature Festival during a conversation with actor Parvathy.
When asked about the rise of hyper-masculine films, Shah called them “sickening” and said their success reflects the state of society. He pointed out that films like Animal and Pushpa 2 glorify toxic masculinity and are alarmingly popular.
“I don’t know if this is a reflection of society or its fantasies,” he said. He added that such movies feed the secret desires of men who look down on women. “It’s terrifying to see how much approval these films get,” he stated.
Shah also admitted that he did some films only for money. “I don’t think it’s shameful to work for money, but I do regret those films,” he confessed. However, he believes that people only remember the good work an actor does.
Naseeruddin Shah was last seen in Fateh, starring Sonu Sood.
