New Delhi: As the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies continues to reshape industries, concerns about potential job losses have surfaced. However, Infosys CEO Salil Parekh has reassured employees and stakeholders that the company remains committed to job creation rather than workforce reductions.
In a recent interview with CNBC-TV18, Parekh emphasized that Infosys will not resort to layoffs despite ongoing workforce restructuring in the IT sector due to generative AI advancements. He reiterated the company’s strategic focus on leveraging AI while maintaining a balanced workforce.
“No, we are not doing any of that. In fact, others in the industry have done that, but we have been very clear that that’s not the approach we are taking,” said Parekh. He believes that AI and traditional roles will coexist in large organizations, contributing to greater efficiency and new employment opportunities.
Infosys is actively investing in AI expertise, with plans to hire more professionals skilled in generative AI. The company aims to enhance its AI capabilities to better serve global enterprises. “We at Infosys are very strong in generative AI, and over the next several years, we will have more and more people joining us who become experts in generative AI, and we will be serving the world’s large organizations,” Parekh added.
The company has also demonstrated its commitment to its workforce by issuing performance bonuses to employees. Although the average payout for the fourth quarter saw a decline, Infosys continues to recognize and reward its employees’ contributions.
The statement from Parekh underscores a growing industry trend where AI and automation are viewed not as threats to employment but as catalysts for job evolution. As businesses adapt to new technologies, the demand for professionals skilled in AI, data science, and emerging tech solutions is set to rise, paving the way for more job opportunities in the future.
