Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has addressed growing speculation about his political ambitions. Amid rumors of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s possible retirement, Adityanath said politics is not his “full-time job.”
Speaking to PTI, he stated, “I am the Chief Minister, but in reality, I am a Yogi.” He added that his role in politics has a “time limit.”
His comments come after Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut claimed the RSS wants PM Modi to step down by September. Raut suggested Modi was reminded of the BJP’s informal “75-year norm” during a recent visit to the RSS headquarters. PM Modi turns 75 this year.
However, the BJP and RSS dismissed these rumors. Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis declared, “In 2029, Modi ji will be the Prime Minister again.”
Adityanath also denied any differences with BJP’s top leadership. “I am here because of the party. There is no question of differences,” he said.
The UP CM has led the state for nine years, focusing on law and order, Hindutva, and development. His tenure saw major events like the Ram temple consecration and the Maha Kumbh.
However, BJP suffered a setback in the 2024 elections, winning only 33 seats in UP—29 fewer than in 2019. This loss has sparked speculation about internal tensions.
Despite the political buzz, Yogi Adityanath remains non-committal about his future, keeping all possibilities open.
